mikepf | I recently found a signed copy of "Off the Planet" by Jerry Linenger. His signature is a good 8 inches long. It goes diagonally from one corner to the other of an empty page. This is easily the biggest astronaut autograph I remember seeing. Was this typical of his book signings? Have any of you see other astronauts who signed so big? |
Jurg Bolli | I ordered his book when it first came out, and it is signed the same way. |
lspooz | Yup, I have both full diagonal corner-to-corner w/black Sharpie (two hardcover books at blank flyleaf) and some horizontal full-width with black ballpoint (two books at title page, one NASA litho). Shuttle astronaut Roger Crouch (who gives a great speech) has an inscription that tends to be pretty large and free range, increasing in size as it goes along. |
COR482932 | I'll go for both ends of the scale. - Largest: Chiaki Mukai
- Smallest: Gordo Cooper

Hart Sastrowardoyo | And shortest has to be Ed Lu, with four letters! |
sts205cdr | Story... Just that, but BIG. |
Hart Sastrowardoyo | Dave Wolf does the same. A big 'Dave'. |
Joel Katzowitz | I've got a big Story signature on a photo as well but he signed it upside down. When I asked him why he said "because there's no up or down in space." |
cycleroadie | Most illegible (of the ones I have anyways), Rusty Schweickart and Steve Bowen, I'll call it a tie. |

I would add Jeff Hoffman to your list. |
MCroft04 | Just home from the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation's Space Rendezvous, where I had lunch with Jeff Hoffman; fun time. It's 3 AM but I just had to go measure my Aldrin on my Apollo 17 panorama; A good 8" long and beautiful! |
Kirsten | Ulf Merbold also signed some of my items with a VERY big autograph. |
india-mike | I have a copy of the "Mir Story" from David Harland that already signed 25 different astronauts and cosmonauts who flew missions to the Saljut and Mir space stations. Ulf Merbold also signed this one because he flew a mission to Mir (Soyuz TM-20). And guess what? His signature is the LARGEST compared to the signatures of all the others. The signature of Viktor Afanasiyev is the shortest one in this book until now. |

I agree. I have a copy of 'The Way of Water' and his signature is HUGE! |
Mark Zimmer | I had Walt Cunningham sign my Alan Bean Apollo book, along with many other folks. His signature is easily 4x as big as anyone else's — spans the entire oversized page. |
